The Last Day follows 17-year-old Lucas (an aspiring musician) and his best friend Brandon during a couple of moments on their final day of Grade 12. Lucas wants to pursue a music career because he sees it as a way to help others connect to something of meaning.

However, due to his apprehensive mother, Lucas wrestles with embracing his vision for the future. What's more, when Brandon reveals he is moving away,  the two friends experience a moment of conflict. Through this, Lucas is confronted with having to say goodbye to his best friend, and also has to make a choice between staying, or (like Brandon), leaving, saying goodbye to all he's called home for the past 17 years.
